The Last Sitting...Again

In 1962, photographer Bert Stern shot a series of photos of Marilyn Monroe at the Hotel Bel-Air that have collectively come to be known as "The Last Sitting." The photographs are arguably the most famous images ever captured of America's most famous actress. Six weeks after she had posed, Monroe was found dead of an apparent barbiturate overdose.

Fast forward forty-six years later:
Stern re-shoots these classic shots...with none other than Lindsay Lohan.

Ohhh, they are trying to relate Lindsay to Marilyn in so many ways to make it seem like this was a perfect match, but it just doesn't work.

Better to leave well enough alone...
Why redo something that was so beautifully done in it's original form?

Miss Marilyn is probably rolling over in her grave.

Lindsay in no way matches the beauty of Marilyn...not even close! At best these photos are bad knock-offs. Lindsay looks more like a hooker or drug addict caught in the act in most of them.

Also, her body doesn't even compare...Marilyn had a womanly hourglass figure and that creamy white smooth skin and wasn't covered in freckles. Marilyn just exuded sex. I don't feel that from Lindsay ever.

Stern said the project also grew out of his interest in “controversial women,” or “bad girls,” like “Britney, Paris, and Lindsay.” Monroe was, in a sense, the original tabloid queen.

I think Stern would have been better off shooting Lindsay for her first "sitting" with Playboy or Penthouse then, don't you think?

Raven...
i found your blog a few days ago and think it's fresh and wonderful... i totally agree with you about this: LL is no match for Marilyn, and it's NOT about the freckles!

This seems mean, but I think LL looks ugly and really old in those photos. Nothing like the beautiful, voluptuous Monroe.

I have this issue (I'm a subscriber) and I am not impressed with this spread. It was a very poor choice.

I had the exact thought about the lack in comparison between Lindsay's body and Marilyn's. Marilyn is the epitome of the curvy, beautiful average sized woman. Lindsay, ironically, is reminiscent of a 13 year old boys frame...well, minus the decent boobs. Still. There is no real comparison or relevance between the two that I can see. Heck, Stern would have been better off sticking Jessica Simpson in the role.

Cheers,
Crystal

I agree...

I saw Scarlett Johansson on "Regis & Kelly" today and was thinking that SHE would have even been a better choice than LiLo.
I'm not exactly a fan of Scarlett's either, but her skin is so creamy and dreamy looking. Yum...

That really doesn't work indeed!

And that hairdo (wig?) looks ridiculous on LL!

Your blog was the first time I saw these pictures. At first glancejkI thought the first picture was a parody of Marilyn Monroe with an old lady posing. Upon actually reading the blog I realised it was Lindsay, how horrific. She looks like she's 45, and she has the body of a little boy. No curves. I'm not a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe by any means but these pictures are purely a big mistake.

i totally agree!! those freckles ruin the whole marilyn thing... you would think a little photoshop would help in that area!! he totally ruined MM by doing lilo..

Scarlett would have definitely been a better match. WAAAAY Better. Unfortunately, those pix of Lindsay do not do her justice and she does look old. I actually thought the person was a Queen / Loca posing as Marilyn. It's hard to put anyone up against Marilyn there will only be one. In person Lindsay is quite a beauty. She once entered the store that I help manage in the city called Live Fast.

You are so right. I can't sad LL and she doesn't even come close to Marilyn.
