Pretty Things Inspiration...Tilda Swinton

We LOVE Tilda Swinton...and, in the world of fashion, she's a cult celebrity favorite when it comes to style.
Tilda wears avant-garde clothing better than anyone as her lean, lanky body is just right to make it all work to create just the righ
t illusion of mystery, fantasy and devilish delight.

*❤*

Currently, she is on the cover and featured in the Spring/Summer 2009 issue of AnOther Magazine and is pure magical perfection!

Pretty Things... Coco Avant Chanel

Audrey Tautou {Amelie} is the legendary couturiere Coco Chanel in the new French-language film Coco Avant Chanel. The drama {which is sans English subtitles for the moment} appears to be a lavish period piece { just the way I love 'em}. It opens in theaters in France next month, but we're still waiting on a release date here in the States.

Check out the trailer for a sneak peak into the iconoclastic Chanel's rise to fashion greatness. Even if you don't understand French, the imagery is beautiful and worth a look.

What's UP with...?

Here are more of our favourite celebs with looks that make us ask "What's up with...?"

Paris Hilton
What's up with...someone actually entrusting her with their child?

Jessica Alba & Cash Warren
What's up with...their frumpy wardrobes pulled from the bins at GoodWill? Are her movies doing so badly they can't afford both a nanny AND a stylist?

Mickey Rourke
What's up with...US thinking he was an idiot for wearing sunglasses at night? He was doing us a favour as they take the focus off of everything else gone wrong, including his missing tooth. ;) Please put them back on, Mickey!

Juliette Lewis
What's up with...her new look? She's never been one for current fashion, but this is just hideous!

Kelly Clarkson
What's up with...her lack of personal care lately? Did she fire her stylist?

Sarah Jessica Parker
What's up with...going from 'high style' to 'don't care' overnight? And to think that some call her one of the most stylish. Goes to show you that an acting role is just that.

Disclaimer to all the nutjobs who don't "get it"...This post is meant to be in fun. Please don't take any of the comments personally. Anyone who leaves their home in a bad outfit is subject to someone somewhere poking a little fashion faux pas finger at them.

March Focus: Connection

Connection

Connection is our number one human need. All the actions or non-actions we take in the world are related to this desire. When we complain, make excuses and blame, we are using fear as our vehicle for connection. When we refuse to connect our head and heart, thoughts and feelings, we have little room for compassion, understanding and expression.

When we are willing to seek connection, we are able to reach out, ask for help and receive affirmation of our oneness with the world. When we are willing to embrace our desire for connection, we become willing to look within and see the barriers that stand in our way. When we connect with another, we find ourselves.

Do Celebs Entice You...

to buy?

Celebrities are turning into fashion stars for Spring/Summer 2009 and we're not sure it makes a difference.

* ❤ *

The rumours are true and I think my world just stopped turning.
*sigh*
It's true that Vivienne Westwood has picked Pam Anderson as the "face" for Spring 2009. Apparently, Vivienne saw Pam front row at her Red Label show in September and just had to have her, tossing all real models aside.
...and we loved Westwood fashion for her quirky high style. Pam and her adopted "girls" just look trashy.

Artist Spotlight... Tizzalicious ❤

Update: The winner of the cute little apple brooch by Tizzalicious is ROSANNE! Congratulations, Rosanne...and a big thank you to everyone who entered.

❤ ❤ ❤

"I love seeing how something I have in mind actually turned out when it is finished." - Tizz

Cuteness abounds in this week's feature on Tizzalicious!

Maartje, or "Tizz" has been making us smile with all of her sweet and quirky things for quite some time now.

Tizz has always loved making jewelry, sewing and other crafts. Her mum taught her to sew when she was very little and she has been making jewelry foreverlong as well...all the way back to when she made earrings out of water ballons when she was little {without water, of course}.

She turned her interests into a business about 4 years ago and has been crafting super "kawaii" and colourful goodies in different styles like kawaii, kitsch, retro & rockabilly ever since.

Spotlight...Tizzalicious

Tell us a bit about yourself...

I'm Maartje, but I usually go by my nickname Tizz. I'm a 26 year old crafty girl from The Netherlands. I sell handmade jewelry, accessories, plush & softies, art and more in different styles, like kawaii, kitsch, retro & rockabilly. I love anything cute and colorful!

What inspires you?
Anything cute and things from the past. I love all things retro and vintage, and I think that shows in my designs. I love anything from the 50s and 60s, so I could say that has an influence on my work. Aside from that, Anything! When I see something in a shop, I automatically wonder if I could turn it into something nice. Being on Etsy also inspired me to try out more different crafts.

Apart from creating things, what do you do for fun?
I love shopping, watching movies & Star Trek with the boyfriend, going to concert, photography, my Blythe dolls, drinking hot chocolate, traveling, blogging, messing around online (I'm a member of way too many forums and social networks!), and I am the team leader of the Crafting in Color Etsy Team (http://craftingincolorteam.blogspot.com).

Do you work at your art/craft full time or do you have another job?
I don't have a full time job, but I am on disability because I get a lot of migraines. I am trying hard to make enough money with my shop so that I will be able to provide for myself, I don't like having to depend on disability, and a "normal" job is out of the question for now. I'm not there yet, but things are going better than I anticipated when I opened my shop a year ago :)

What has been your most memorable moment selling your art?
I loved it when I sold a cute plusie to someone in Japan. They can find cuteness everywhere there, and still she decided to buy something in my shop, on the other side of the world! I thought it was a huge compliment.

What are your current obsessions/interests?

I am obsessed with Blythe dolls, I currently have 3, I promised myself I'll stick to these 3, but then again, I promised myself to stick to 1 when I bought my first one too...

Any advice for fellow artists...
This is not going to be very original, but: Stick to making things you love! We all love to make money with our craft, but don't end up making things you don't like yourself just because they are popular. You need to have fun!

If you could be any character, who would it be and why?
Hmmm, that's a hard one. Maybe superman. His clumsy act when he is a real person is about what I'm like in real life, so at least I would have that part covered!

Do you think you lived in a past life? ...If so, where and when?
If I did, it was in the 50s!

Tell us any future plans you have for your business...
I'm hoping my shop will continue to grow, so I will be able to pay the pills without being on disability. Aside from that, I will just keep on creating the things I love, and hoping others will love them too!

Anything else you'd like to add about yourself, your work, etc...
I really don't know. I'm not good at answering questions. :P

Any favourite Etsy sellers you'd like to mention?
I love The Tiny Fig.
